Khoj Museum

KHOJ is one of the first dynamic children’s museum in India focussing on connecting science, art and innovation by means of participatory displays, inquiry-based activities and inquisitiveness-based explorations. Unlike a regular museum having play cards of “Please Do Not Touch”, at KHOJ visitors are encouraged to interact, participate, play and explore different exhibits and concepts. The main philosophy of the museum is that the children should have fun and build inquisitiveness while explore the exhibitions, in the process they will learn and understand different concepts in-depth and further building their own small movements to promote the concept of innovation. The growing years of a child are filled with inquisitiveness and amusement towards what they observe. Their minds are filled with inquiry and have freedom of expression. KHOJ Museum was built with a mandate of supporting the young ones in questioning every thing which they see, defusing the boundaries between the subjects and focussing on the theme and further connecting it with daily lives. Art and creativity remain at the core of the museum and acts as a bridge between science, innovation and daily lives.

Khoj Museum is India’s first Children’s museum. It aims to provide a rich experience of hands-on activities that inculcate the spirit of questioning and thinking in children. Khoj means, “Search or Discovering” in Hindi. The museum aims at activities, challenges and exhibits that facilitate thinking, inventing and the spirit of discovery. We take up simple concepts that we see everyday whether its seasons changing from one to another or soap bubbles and use them as a medium for children to learn and understand science. Innovation and Science are closely linked with each other. Innovation is built upon science and science is built by innovation. The museum is an innovative space designed with different experiments for children and adults alike to understand everyday phenomena that happen around them.

The museum has 2 permanent exhibits – A for Astronomy and Able. The two temporary exhibits rotate every 6 months. It’s a dynamic museum with ever-changing exhibitions and workshops that combine science and creativity.

Brief History: The museum was opened with a view to offer an experience rich time to children, so they can dabble and learn about art, science and innovation.

How to get there

By Road: Gujarat has one of the better developed road networks in India. Ahmedabad is well connected with all major cities and towns by road. State and private buses are a great option to travel between smaller towns in the state.

By Train: Major Indian cities are also connected via the Ahmedabad railway station that lies on the western railways network. The main railway station is located in Kalupur area. This station falls under the prominent national railway circuit and is connected to all major cities of India. India’s first bullet train project will be connecting Mumbai to Ahmedabad by December 2023. It will run at a speed of 320 kmph and cover the distance in 3 hours.

By Air: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad connects all major cities in India and key cities abroad to the state.
